Aging Brings Strength

For seniors living with cognitive changes due to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, we cannot lose sight of the many important age-related strengths that persist and grow, regardless of their condition, including wisdom, creativity, resilience, and humor.

Our answer to aging with neurocognitive change, then, is inspired by these strengths and comes in the form of an innovative, one-of-a-kind project called the S. Donald Sussman EmpathiCare Village. Named after lead donor S. Donald Sussman, the Village will be a vibrant community for individuals living there or visiting from the community to get assistance with their neurocognitive challenges and find meaning and joy through specially designed interactions and activities.

The S. Donald Sussman EmpathiCare Village will be an open, inviting and safe community where individuals can focus on age-given strengths and purposeful living. Programs will focus on brain fitness, creative arts and expression, nutrition, exercise, and friendship, all guided by staff members trained in our empathic caring-centered philosophy known as Miami Jewish EmpathiCareSM. At the center of the Village will be MIND Institute at Miami Jewish Health, led by renowned Alzheimer’s expert Dr. Marc Agronin and a team of professionals to provide the latest in treatments and research for individuals living with neurocognitive change.
